Packing Tips

Packing efficiently is a crucial part of any move.
At Classic Moves, we want to make sure your belongings are securely packed and ready for transport. Here are our expert tips to help you pack like a pro:
- Plan Ahead:
Give yourself at least six weeks before your moving date to start planning and organizing. - Declutter:
Decide which items aren’t worth moving. Donate or dispose of anything you don’t need. - Set Aside a Donation Box:
Designate a box for items you want to donate, and pack it last to avoid confusion. - Consider Storage Needs:
If you’ll need storage, plan ahead and arrange it early. - Gather Moving Supplies:
Make sure you have all the boxes, tape, packing paper, bubble wrap, and other supplies you’ll need. - Pack Non-Essentials First:
Begin with items that you won’t need before the move, like seasonal decorations, books, and out-of-season clothing. - Label Everything:
Label the tops and sides of all boxes, indicating their contents and which room they belong to. Use special labels like “fragile” where necessary. - “Unpack First” Box:
Have a box labeled “unpack first, load last” with essentials such as toiletries, a change of clothes, and important documents. - Use Padding for Fragile Items:
Use towels, linens, and pillows to cushion fragile items. Wrap delicate items in bubble wrap or packing paper. - Keep Furniture Parts Together:
When moving furniture, keep screws and small parts in a plastic bag and tape it to the corresponding furniture piece. Wrap delicate furniture in protective padding. - Mind the Weight:
Packed boxes shouldn’t weigh more than 50 pounds. Use smaller boxes for heavier items. - Pack by Room:
Pack one room at a time and group similar items together. - Avoid Garbage Bags:
Garbage bags can tear easily and aren’t ideal for packing. Stick to sturdy moving boxes. - Keep Important Documents with You:
Ensure that important records, such as passports or medical documents, are kept with you during the move.
